Seeing as I simply can’t be bothered to do this, I have tended to stick to the ones that work well. Some are more developed than others and some either don’t work or you need to seriously tweak the settings to get them to work. Since I have had my Wii, I have played a selection of the emulators. So to get to this stage doesn’t take that much time or effort. Any members found downloading will be thrown into the basement and forced to play the entire US Gold back catalogue for the rest of time! Please note that the Retro Asylum do not condone the use if illegal rom files. This can be fiddly but again there are lots of guides available online. You now have the emulator installed and can add games.

Make your choice and it will then download to your homebrew channel homepage.
#SNES EMULATORS FOR WII PC#
There is everything from the Super Nintendo, to the NES, to Mame and PC Engine. Once the channel is loaded you can run the homebrew browser which is essentially a list of emulators to download. Go online and download ‘homebrew browser’, pop it on the SD card and load the channel. Now on your homepage you will see a channel called ‘homebrew channel’. You will see a note with a red bomb on it. When you next turn on the Wii, insert your SD card and go to the message board. There are lots of guides online that go into more detail. I won’t go into too much detail here with the exact ins and outs of what do. Next you need to download a file called Letterbomb, copy it to your (formatted) SD card and you are ready to get started. If you follow this you should be fine but there is always a risk that you could damage your Wii so don’t blame me, you have been warned!! Its important here to set to the exact time and date. The next thing to do is erase all the crap off of your Wii, restore to factory settings and ensure that you are updated to the most recent firmware via the system preferences. Also, as I recently found out, the ScummVM emulator only supports the Game Cube controller so this option would get my vote. The advantage of the Game Cube controller is that it plugs straight into the Wii therefore no issues with battery life etc. Then either get yourself a GameCube controller or an official Wii game pad. It even supports Apple ones which is very cool. You will also need to grab an old keyboard and mouse.
I got mine for 9.99 with all leads and x2 controllers. This means you can pick them up on eBay for next to nothing. The best thing is is that you don’t need the disc drive to work.
In this review/guide I thought I would briefly explain how I went about getting the emulators to run on the Wii and whether overall it’s a good way of playing old games. They are dirt cheap to pick up, they have an SD card slot built in, wifi and the capability to add a mouse, keyboard and game pad. I know there are a few systems around that offer what I’m after but I liked the idea of using a Wii as when I looked into it, there were lots of benefits. My gaming space or ‘man cave’ as my wife calls it would be complete.
#SNES EMULATORS FOR WII PSP#
Due to a lack of space I had previously resorted to running them on a PSP but this time I wanted an actual system that could be plugged into an old CRT TV. For a while I had been on the look out for a system that can run multiple emulators. It was Swainy from the the Retro Asylum who first told me it was possible. To start off, I thought I’d explain a little about how I came to running emulators on a Wii console.
